bulky waste collection

Bulky Household Waste Collection

There are three ways to dispose of bulky household waste such as cookers, carpets and furniture.

  • Impact Furniture Services
  • Household Waste Recycling Centres
  • We may collect it for a charge

Impact Furniture Services

Impact Furniture Services (external link) can collect clean, reusable unwanted furniture and electrical goods. They then sell these on at low cost, helping you and the environment.

To donate furniture or electrical items, or to buy items, call them on 01228 633655 or visit 47 Nelson Street, Carlisle.

Household Waste Recycling Centres

You can dispose and recycle a range of bulky household waste items at Cumbria County Council’s sites:

A permit scheme (external link) applies at both of these sites for the following vehicles: vans, pickups, flatbeds or a twin axle trailer (up to 3m long).  To obtain a permit, please contact the County Council permit helpline on 0845 055 1118 or apply online (external link)

Carlisle City Council - Special collections

To arrange a collection, please use our online form below (our preferred contact method), email customerservices@carlisle.gov.uk or telephone 01228 817200. We will collect up to 5 household items for a fixed price of £15. This only includes items such as furniture, kitchen appliances and TVs.

We will collect fixtures and fittings (kitchen units, bathroom suites, doors, windows and radiators) at a cost per item. Please see charges for fixtures and fittings for more information.

We don't collect builders' rubble, soil, stones, cement, concrete, sand, wood off-cuts, guttering or scrap metal.

Electronic forms

Electronic forms can be completed and submitted online, with no paper involved, which is not only our preferred method; it's kinder to the environment as well.
